The Giving Angels
By Brenda Cosse
I have been a member of SedonaKind since the very first meeting 4 years ago, and it has inspired me to think more consistently about the ‘KIND ’thing to do in different situations. There are certainly lots of choices about how to act and respond to life as it comes along, and I am so grateful for the inner voice that asks how and where I can be kind. Most of the time, it’s just following the direction of my heart.
Kindness inspires a feeling we get when we do something for someone else that may not happen in any other way. It’s a feeling of the oneness of the whole. The Giving Angels, an organization I’m so proud to be a part of provides that kind of feeling for me. It’s the knowledge that with the simple delivering of a gift bag, another person may be touched in a very special way that may only happen once a year.
It’s a simple kindness to remember there are those who do not have abundance or family or sometimes even the basics that they need. In fact, right here in the Verde Valley this is a growing concern these days, especially within the senior community. Is it kindness or just seeing a need that continues to inspire the Giving Angels to keep giving those wonderful gift bags every year? Perhaps it’s a bit of both.
It is certainly a kindness that inspires everyone who volunteers to help make it all possible. Without the volunteers’ kindness it could not continue to happen. Every year 100 + people come together during certain hours each day of one week and voila: 600 people receive a bag of gifts by the end of that week.
It sounds a bit impossible but it’s a sight to behold when 20+ people come together in one room with Christmas music playing. They accomplish so much and they are always in jolly spirits spreading good cheer in so many ways. That’s kindness, such wonderful kindness. Kindness is in every bag that is put together because that is what’s in every person’s heart who has a hand in making it all happen.
What a blessing it is to be part of something so much larger than myself or any one person. My deep gratitude goes to every person who contributes in any way to the success of the Giving Angels and their mission. And to SedonaKind, for keeping an awareness of kindness in our hearts and in our community.
