SedonaKind
2023 Proposed projects

Please read through the terrific ideas that you all generated, and decide which ones you want to sign up for. Then email our wonderful Christine at [email protected]. She’ll compile a list to present at our meeting (and for our website), and Kindness ’23 projects can begin. We know there are lots of ideas to digest, so grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and really think about how each of you want to help SedonaKind accomplish our mission this year.

Veterans Breakfast
Sedona Public Library, May 12, 2023
Co-Chairs: Carol Wallen & Jawn McKinley, temporary
Needed:  Chair to replace Jawn
Volunteers to make & deliver food
Volunteers to set-up, decorate, serve, clean-up
Currently this project has 10 volunteers signed up.
Operation Special Delivery
Needed: Chair or Co-Chairs
Volunteers to help create & deliver “appreciation” &/or “encouragement” items
While we have 12 volunteers signed up to help, we need a chair or co-chairs to coordinate all the enthusiasm around this on-going project.  They would:
  • Meet with the volunteers to brainstorm ideas
  • Coordinate the research into the cost(s) associated with the projects
  • Present the idea and budget to the Board
  • Coordinate the creation of the “gifts” and delivery of same

Community Kindness Projects
Chair: Lin Ennis
Needed: volunteers to brainstorm ideas and bring them to life
This committee will explore ways to get out into the community to spread kindness.  Projects could include such things as participation in community events held in various locations throughout Sedona.  Currently this project has 8 volunteers signed up to help.

Kindness Signs for City/County trails
Needed: Chair or Co-chairs Volunteers
This committee will take the research that has already been done on the signs and their potential costs and finalize a plan to make it happen. Breckenridge has already done this and examples could be looked at to possibly copy or get  ideas from them. The Chair and committee would need to:
  • Explore the feasibility with the City Public Works
  • Designate with the city where they could go
  • Cost project and bring a budget to the board
  • Possibly apply for grants for funding if necessary
Currently this project has 5 volunteers signed up to help.

My Life, My Story
Needed: Chair or Co-Chairs, Volunteers for ideas, interviews and transcriptions

Who really knows a person (family members, friends, acquaintances) and their amazing and varied backgrounds?  Do their children and grandchildren know what their life was like, what they’ve accomplished and what they’re most proud of?  This project would involve interviewing senior citizens, recording their answers and creating a printed version of their “life” for them and their families.  The scale of this project and the initial target group would be determined by the committee.  This project will require a longer commitment than most projects as it is anticipated that more than one interview per person will be required.  Currently there are 4 volunteers signed up to help.

Gratitude Trees
Needed: 1 or 2 people to Chair/Co-Chair
1 or more volunteers to paint wooden hearts for trees and cutout/create “shapes”  for the schools
Co-Chair responsibilities:
  • Contact previous locations to confirm their desire to host a tree again
  • Contact schools (Oak Creek School & West Sedona School) to confirm their interest and find out what “shape” they would prefer for the students (note: they don’t get a tree, just shapes)
  • If there are other locations you would like to consider, present those ideas to the Board
  • Insure there are enough trees in storage to distribute (Note: more can be made with Manzanita branches affixed to bowls with plaster of paris)
  • Gather baskets, signs, pens & hearts from SK storage unit and separate into “sets”
  • Insure all hearts that had been previously written on are re-painted
  • Deliver the trees to the various locations with the basket of hearts, signs & pens
  • After Kindness Season, pick up trees, baskets, signs, hearts & pens and return to storage (If possible, take a picture before you take it away)
  • Type up what was written on the hearts, by location, and submit to Board for distribution
Volunteer responsibilities:
  • Paint hearts that had been previous written on
  • Cut out/create shapes for the students at the schools
  • Assist the chair/co-chair

Sedona Run
February 3, 2024
Needed: Chair or Co-Chair
Volunteers for the tent at the start/finish line
This project is to manage/volunteer at a tent at the start/finish line at the Sedona Run, handing out water, fruit, etc.  There is currently one volunteer signed up.
Dog/Kitty Essentials Bags
Co-Chairs: Linda Brecher, Suzanne Owens,  Lynda Brown
Needed: Volunteers to help get donations or discounted pet products
This committee will be obtaining essential items for dogs and cats that will be distributed at the Food Bank in the fall to those with pets in need.  If you have contacts or ideas on how to obtain pet essential items at reasonable prices, this is the committee for you.  There are currently 2 volunteers, plus the 3 co-chairs signed up for this committee.

Elderly & Homebound Kindness Projects
Needed: Chair or Co-Chairs
Needed: Volunteers
This committee is in need of a Chair or Co-chairs to get things organized.  There are 8 volunteers already signed up for this project. The committee will meet to go over the myriad of ideas that have been proposed and recommended and decide which projects they would like to move forward with.  A plan and a budget will be submitted to the Board and then they will make the approved projects happen.
