Knitting Kindness
Hats Off To Our SedonaKind Knitters
At the November 2019 general meeting of SedonaKind, it felt like we were all whisked off into a Dr. Seuss storybook! There were hundreds and hundreds ( almost 800!!!!) of colorful, whimsical, warm and wonderful one of a kind hats and scarves piled onto three huge tables in the Community Center large room. They were waiting to be sorted and organized for distribution to every schoolchild in our district. Almost all of our amazing knitting team were there, so we could thank them in person for the magic they create, and the room was filled with cries of delight, laughter, and exactly the feeling that this project creates in us all. KIS chairperson Pam Hollenbach put her wizard cap on and figured out how to sort and organize it all, and her dear husband Paul ( our Kindness men are just the BEST!) somehow got all 10 huge storage bins into two cars and ready for the next round of sorting. The RRNEWS arrived with rather stunned look on their faces when they saw the huge pile of hats ( thank you Ron Eland and David Jolkovski ) and took photos and will do an article- keep your eyes peeled for it. It was a perfect activity for our last meeting of 2019, and the end of our 4th year as SedonaKind. So thank you again, to our wonderful knitters, to all of you who donated yarn, and to those who will be helping to distribute the hats to the kiddoes just as the weather turns colder. Colorful warm yarn and kindness and love will keep all our schoolkids warm this winter!

KINDNESS WARMS THE HEART- AND LITTLE HEADS!
SedonaKind’s Kindness in Schools Committee (KIS) ended 2019 with a burst of activities that brought smiles and happiness to our teachers and their students. Our amazing knitters had completed 800 one-of-a-kind knitted hats, and they and the KIS team had the joy of going to West Sedona, Oak Creek and the Sedona Charter School to let each student pick out the one that they loved the most. There were squeals of delight as they walked in with the big bags of hats, and most classrooms ended up singing holiday songs, taking photos of everyone in their hats, and just sharing holiday cheer. Mary Ellen had also knitted lovely scarves for every teacher, and each was so surprised and touched to be remembered as well.

SedonaKind knitters were pleased to present over 350 hats to the American Heritage Schools in Cottonwood and Camp Verde…just as the cold weather hit. Children were allowed to choose their own special hat from various styles, colors and sizes. To avoid a “MadCap Melee”, the children were taken into the gym one classroom at a time to make their selections from hats laid out on tables. They had a wonderful time, as you can see from the pictures and video. Both schools are having a festive hat and socks day on the 19th so they can keep them on all day.
