What Does "Kindness" Mean?
by Cheri Baldwin
Kindness is a wonderful, beautiful, complex, quality in a person. It’s also something that is deeply personal to you. It comes from your soul. You can’t pretend to be kind.
Kindness means never judging a person or their situation. You don’t know their story. Never assume that you do.
Long ago, I printed out this quote written by a very wise 15-year old girl, Keri Cuthriell. “Everyone has experienced difficult times at one time or another when things were not going well and needed an act of kindness to brighten up their day. If it wasn’t for that one person, that one act of kindness, they might not have the life they have today.”
Remember how effective just the smallest act of kindness can be. Know that you can do this for others. In the long run, you may not just be helping one person but multiple people. We’ve all heard of the pebble in the pond, and more than likely have been the recipient of the ripple that passes through us and on to others. We’ve seen it in the spirit of those that respond to natural disasters to help their neighbors and strangers alike. We’ve given of ourselves to help those in need and often others have reciprocated. It can mean all the difference in the world to someone that is suffering through any situation.
Kindness overpowers all.
