Give From Our Hearts
By Lou Ann Bruck
The month of December is one of the most special months of the year. One of the songs of the holiday season says: “It’s the time of year, when the world falls in love.” What a great reminder to be in our hearts and give to others. Just like the mission for Sedona Kind to encourage acts of kindness, large and small, locally and around the world; we all get to come from this place within our hearts especially during this season.
It is such a privilege being a part of this group and seeing all the numerous activities done throughout the year for others – from supporting local veterans - providing basic needs for local family shelters – to kindness activities in the schools. What an inspiration it is for each of us to be caring and kind in even small moments in our own lives.
During the past weekend we were able to see a fundraiser movie for Sedona Kind at Mary D Fisher Theatre called: Mission Joy: Finding Happiness in Troubled Times. What a treat it was to watch the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu share their light-hearted natures with each other for us all to experience and emulate! It was shown to a packed theatre twice on Sunday! Kudos for the choice of film which shows two extraordinary friends from totally different backgrounds – one Buddhist and the other Christian, respecting and treasuring each other!
That same morning, Thomas, my husband, and I watched another film on Zoom presented by Non-Violent Communication Academy called “Women Daring Peace.” It was about two women, Anat, a Palestinian and Nadia, an Israeli, coming together for several years now with their friends and family. They each shared about their past and their grief over losing the lives of loved ones. In the film you could see how initially some folks had their arms folded showing their unwillingness to participate. Little by little each person began to tell their stories and began opening up to listen and empathize. They are sharing about compassion, caring and kindness in a war torn part of the world and creating a ripple effect of peace. This film is free on YouTube now if you wish to see it!
What a blessing and an honor to watch both films on the same day, sharing people doing their part in making the world a better place.
With the holiday season nearing, let’s give and share from our hearts. Remember to laugh, even about silly things and be grateful for each moment – let the JOY in your inner being shine brightly for all!
