Wearing Kindness
By Katie Hamilton
A few years ago our home was broken into and robbed while we were on a camping trip. One of the things they took was ALL of my jewelry...and I mean all of it! They took everything from priceless family pieces to my cheap plastic Christmas earrings. They lifted my jewelry cabinet off the wall as well as taking the safe out of the closet. You can imagine how violated this makes you feel.
Without me knowing it, some of my friends got together and told other friends who told people I barely knew. They all gave me pieces of their own jewelry to help replace what I had lost. Notes attached to the jewelry were as precious as the pieces themselves. They said things like, “This belonged to my Mom but I know she would love for you to have it.”
This whole experience turned what was a very bad experience into something very special and beautiful. Now I wear their kindness every day.
